ADATA was founded in 2001 and is headquartered in Taiwan. ADATA have the complete range of storage devices, DRAM modules & mobile accessories. ADATA also manages XPG which is their subsidiary. XPG mainly targets their products toward gamers.

Today I got my hands on ADATA’s SD700 Portable SSD an external storage device for storing and moving data at fast speeds. It comes in 256GB, 512GB & 1TB storage capacity. The ADATA SD700 sports USB 3.1 Gen 1 interface. ADATA Advertises it as IP68 dustproof & waterproof plus military grade shockproof drive on their website. ADATA SD700 boasts 3D NAND Flash, which results in better reliability, power efficiency & performance. The one I received, has the capacity of 256GB.

The front side of the box is really shiny & you can take a direct look at the drive you are buying. It states that this SSD is supported for Windows / Mac / Android. ADATA also points that this SSD has won few awards from reddot awards 2017, iF Design Award 2017 & Taiwan Excellence 2017.


The Backside of the box states its specification, system requirements in different languages & some ordinary information.


On either side of the box, we can see that ADATA SD700’s Speed is up to 440MBs & its Shockproof, dustproof and waterproof.


opening the box we get a quick start guide, USB 3.1 Cable & the ADATA SD700 SSD itself. The SSD itself is contained within a hard plastic shell & a rubber on the sides of the shell to make it shockproof, And the USB 3.1 interface is also beneath a rubber covering. ADATA clearly mentions in the specifications that the drive is not waterproof if that USB 3.1 slot is open.
The ADATA SD700 itself looks good and is really small compared to regular portable USB external drives.


Performance & Testing:

Performance is the most required part of the review for any given hardware so lets just jump into it and present the performance result to you guys. To benchmark this drive, we are using our default bench. Below are the specifications for our test bench.

Without further ado, let’s dive straight into the benchmarks!

We compared the ADATA SD700 with a number of other removable storage devices and the results are pretty impressive, as you can see the 5GB file reads and writes rates were off the charts for the ADATA SD700 compared to other USB devices.

For 4KB 20000 Small files testing the Adata SD700 shined here too with almost 10% performance ahead of the Patriot Trinity 64GB USB and Sandisk Ultra Fast 64GB USB.

The first synthetic benchmark we ran on ADATA SD700 was ATTO DISK Benchmark. The read & write speed crossed 65 MB/s for the 16Kb files. ADATA SD700 crossed 375MB/s in the read speeds &  190MB/s in write speeds for 1MB and upwards.



Lets further investigate the speeds of ADATA SD700 in “AS SSD Benchmark. The sequential read speed validated to be 391 MB/s  & write speed was validated to be 372MB/s.


In terms of Anvil’s Storage Utility benchmarks, things were adequate enough here too. We saw good results here too.


Crystal Disk Mark is the most basic benchmark that can show results to anyone, who is not even familiar with complex benchmarks, easily. Our ADATA SD700 256GB exhibited speed of 296.6 MB/s in sequential writing & 319.1 MB/s in sequential reading.



In the end, It would not be wrong to say that ADATA SD700 is performing really great compared to traditional USB flash drives & external hard drives. Considering the size of this SSD, still it can’t beat the mobility of a USB flash drive but in terms of performance it totally beats every USB flash drive out there with it immense transfer speeds and if we even talk about its size: almost every person has a carrying bag in which they can bury  this drive, so we aren’t limited here on the size too. All in all the ADATA SD700 is a solid purchase for anyone who is looking for a blazing fast portable storage device.
