Today, Microsoft announced, that they would be acquiring ZenixMedia, the parent company behind Arkane, Zenimax, Bethesda Softworks, id Software, MachineGames, Tango Gameworks, Alpha Dog, Bethesda Game Studious, and Roundhouse Studios.
The announcement on the blog didn’t clarify if the acquisition would restrict Bethesda from publishing games on their own. Well, Bethesda later posted a blog post In which they clarified that they will still be publishing their own games.
“But the key point is we’re still Bethesda. We’re still working on the same games we were yesterday, made by the same studios we’ve worked with for years, and those games will be published by us.”
The Bethesda blog also mentioned that they chose to work with Microsoft because this would “allows them to make even better games going forward. Microsoft is an incredible partner and offers access to resources that will make us a better publisher and developer. We believe that means better games for you to play.”
Earlier today, Microsoft got access to studious who were behind several major franchises like Fallout, Wolfenstein, Doom, Dishonored, Prey, Quake, Starfield, and most Importantly the Elder Scrolls Series. Phil Spencer posted the blog, saying they were very happy over their latest acquisition.
Gamers aren’t particularly happy. Many have pointed out that Bethesda Games will now sell for $70 on other Platforms. While Xbox Game will run a monopoly by including the same games under Game Pass for $10 only.
