Released on October 17, 2006 Bully was a major hit on all platforms. The game had a good story with nice rhythm. However, everyone expected that a second game might be released but Rockstar couldn’t make one.

I gathered Intel from various sources to see what Rockstar was up to from the past 10 years.

In 2008, Rockstar Co-Founder Dan Houser along with his developer wrote a script for Bully In 2008. The Script had Story and everything attached to it. According to sources, Jimmy the hero from the first game along with many returning characters were returned for the second game. The story was continuous, it started from Jimmy being with his step-dad after summer at the end of school year. However it didn’t go well.

Afterward, Rockstar Hired a team to develop the game based on the story. The team kept on doing development, but nothing came out of it and project Bully was abandoned. According to many sources, the story was had nowhere to end, one possible ending was Jimmy going back to school or college.

At this point, Rockstar was just losing money on development and nothing was worth working on. Furthermore, Rockstar was still attached to Bully. They simply did not want to lose all Bully fans just because they could not release a new Bully game.

The final attempt started after Red Dead Redemption was released in May 2010. Rockstar team in New England started working on their new concept. This development started from May 2010 till 2013, almost 18 months of development was done. The team was led by Drew Medina, principal artist of Rockstar at that time. Steven Olds, Rocksar visualization director, who also worked on original Bully.
At the end of 2013, the work was done. A source described that a “very small slice “ of actual game was prepared. It was built with Rockstar Advanced Game Engine (RAGE), previously used in Grand Theft Auto 4 and Max Payne 3. The small piece of game was pretty poor, it had no momentum thus project Bully failed again. Many sources report that no project was worth releasing and none was impressive.

As we speak in 2019, many sources have confirmed that Bully is no longer in development. The game has been cancelled. Well, this is not the first time a game has been disbanded by big companies. Previously, we have seen Scalebound getting abandoned by Microsoft. Another much-anticipated title Starcraft by Blizzard was also abandoned. Nintendo also failed numerous times on Metroid Prime 4, and redeveloped it from the beginning. Nintendo said that the game was “ not up to their standards”.

A similar case to the bully game was Half-life 2 which had a 3rd episode called Half-life 3.

It was in Valve consideration from a long time but the actual game was never released. “There is no such thing as Half-Life 3,” an anonymous Valve developer tells Game Informer. “Valve has never announced a HalfLife 3. The closest they’ve come is after HalfLife 2, they said there would be three episodes.

Some of these games were displayed at E3 numerous times, even the demo was ready to play. The point is taht Companies do not like risking their reputation by simply releasing an average game.

In my opinion, Rockstar has had a lot of success. Most of their titles have made records, and they are still at the top. GTA V has Generated Rockstar around 6 Billion dollars. We have also seen that Rockstar focuses on online gameplay rather than DLC’s.

Apart from this now Rockstar has confirmed that there is no DLC for Red Dead Redemption 2 in planning. They are focused on online right now.

Here is the reference from Rockstar. We’re 100% focused on online right now, because like I said, there’s just so much to do, and we’re just hoping to bring everything that a player can love about single-player into the online world, and fleshed out,” lead online production associate Katie Pica explained.

In my opinion, people will get over the hype for a new bully game. Rockstar might just dumb their new Bully project because they have wasted too much money on it. They are making millions from Online and Newly Released Red Dead Redemption 2. Additionally, now they are focusing on the PC version of it. My last opinion will be that Rockstar will try to focus on GTA 6, which in my opinion can benefit them more than Bully.

Still, don’t lose hope folks, we have seen some surprises from Rockstar. Red Dead Redemption 2 came out of nowhere, and now we will be getting a PC version. Its Rockstar, never lose hope!
