Bungie will be gaining access to the rights to Destiny from Activision. The announcement was made on Thursday bringing an end to a 10-year contract that was brought together in 2010.
The playing experience for Destiny 2 will remain unchanged as Blizzard confirmed full support for the game even after the announcement of the split was made.
Activision released a statement on the matter saying that “Today, we’re announcing plans for Bungie to assume full publishing rights and responsibilities for the Destiny franchise. Going forward, Bungie will own and develop the franchise, and Activision will increase its focus on owned IP and other projects. Activision and Bungie are committed to a seamless transition for the Destiny franchise and will continue to work closely together during the transition on behalf of the community of Destiny players around the world.”
The gaming community is excited to see how the split will favour the gamers and are hopeful that this change will bring about a positive change in the Destiny series after being left with mixed feelings following the release of Destiny 2.
Following the split Activision has seen their share prices following a downwards trend after losing a potential income stream. Activision lost about 7 percent in stock value trading on the New York Stock Exchange. It will be interesting to see how Activision deals with this downwards trend and counters this.
