Chromecast can now sync with multiple home devices

Starting from today, Chromecasts can now be used to add multiple streaming devices to speaker groups and you can sync it across multiple devices and rooms. An update rolling out today allows Chromecast to sync audio streaming along multiple homes device. It is a convenient feature for those who want to mix multiple cast devices for audio streaming.

Back in October, Google claimed that support for speaker groups would be coming out soon on Chromecast, and it finally came out today. This feature, for now, only appears for those who have signed up for the Google’s preview application. Although, it works on all versions of Chromecast. When you’re casting to the speaker group, Chromecast displays the audio information on the bottom left corner of the ambient display instead of the regular ‘Now Playing’ screen.

Earlier this year, Google also allowed users to pair their Bluetooth speaker’s on the Home app to add voice control over your sound system.

Here’s how to enable the speaker group option:

First, you need to join the Preview Program. You can join the preview program by following these steps:

  • Start the Google’s Home app on your Android/iOS device.
  • Tap on the Chromecast that’s inter-connected to your Wi-Fi network, and then touch the Settings button at the top right corner.
  • Scroll down until you see the Preview Program section, and join it by following the on-screen instructions.
And if you can’t spot the Preview Program section, Google just isn’t accepting new members from your region at the moment. You can check back later to see if you can get in.

Next, you’ll need to put your Chromecast in the speaker group in the Home app along with other smart speakers you want to sync your Chromecast with.

  • Fire up the Google home app.
  • Click on Add > Create speaker group, and then tap on each device you want to sync your Chromecast with.
  • Give your group a name and then tap Save.
