After Diablo III and its expansion which came out 2 years after the game, fans have been waiting for the next Diablo game. Kotaku interviewed several employees of Blizzard Entertainment and brought us exclusive updates regarding Diablo IV. According to the sources Diablo IV is in development under code name Fenris project, it has been in development since 2016. Just like Fenris project, there was another version called Hades which was said to be a third-person version of Diablo similar to Dark Souls, which was later discarded.

Furthermore, one of the sources says that Diablo IV will be like Diablo II, meaning, the game will be gruesome and filled with horror.

“They want to make [Diablo IV] gross, make it dark, [get rid of] anything that was considered cartoony in Diablo III.”

There was another expansion for Diablo III which was canceled, but the employees didn’t provide more information than that. Reportedly Diablo IV was rebooted in 2016 which tells us that the game won’t be released until 2020 or later because if it was rebooted once it might get rebooted twice.

Blizzard has made a lot of revenue for in-game purchases in games like Overwatch and World of Warcraft so that might be something they do in Diablo IV as well. The employees also talked about adding MMO elements to the game so you can team up with other people to do quests. There are a lot of ideas but Fenris project is still early so the final product might be completely different than what we thought it would be.

All we can do now is sit back and wait, at least now it has been confirmed that Diablo IV is in the works and we will see it in the future.
