Once again bad news for RTX 3080 Owners because EVGA has just kind of acknowledged that capacitors in the card are causing the wave of crashes. These days, everybody is posting threads about crashes on the EVGA GeForce RTX 3080 FTW3. The majority of them confirmed, that by lowering clock speeds the graphics card didn’t crash.
“Not only the editors and testers were surprised by sudden instabilities of the new GeForce RTX 3080 and RTX 3090, but also the first customers who were able to get board partner cards from the first wave.”
A brief report by Igor’s Lab has brought forward the issue, that capacitors are the main problem. According to the report, EVGA officials were doing the quality tests when they realized the crashings, and saw 6-capacitors configurations, not passing the real world applications testing. The testers replaced the capacitors with POSCAPS, and MLCC Capacitors, which ultimately fixed the problem. At that point, the problem was noted, and this is one of the reasons why EVGA GeForce RTX 3080 FTW3 Series was delayed.
Right now, there is no update on how this problem for users who got cards in the early waves will be fixed.
