Spotted by GamesFontaine, Nvidia has actually re-created Pacman from Nothing. The Graphic Card developers have created an AI bot by the name of GameGAN. The GameGan was showed more than 50,000 footages of Pac-Man, and he read its settings, visuals, and gameplay.
After that, it created a new Pac-Man with 100% exact settings. There are a few problems with the replica game. Most visible problems include the huge fps drops. But, that could be solved with a little bit of optimization on top of it. This replica was made in an effort to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Pac-Man. Nvidia is doing a lot of AI and Technological testings. They call this the Nvidia AI Playground.
This is the first research to emulate a game engine using GAN-based neural networks,” said Seung-Wook Kim, an NVIDIA researcher and lead on the project. “We wanted to see whether the AI could learn the rules of an environment just by looking at the screenplay of an agent moving through the game. And it did.”
“This means that even without understanding a game’s fundamental rules, AI can recreate the game with convincing results. It’s the first neural network model that mimics a computer game engine by harnessing generative adversarial networks, or GANs.”
Of course, this stuff is not for armatures. These tests were done under various AI Engineers and a lot of advanced methods were involved. Moreover, it is fascinating to see such an advancement in technology. This shows the true potential behind AI.
