According to a new report, OnePlus is currently investigating an issue with its first smartphone, the OnePlus One. One such device caught fire, and the company issued a statement soon after by saying:
“We take such incidents seriously. Our team has already reached out to the user and is investigating this further”
So, you may wonder what happened. Well, a particular OnePlus user reported that his OnePlus One unit burst into flames, while he also explained as to how that happened. This report came from a Twitter user Chaiti Narula, though he’s not the one having issues, he only shared the issue. Rahul Himalian is the user who owns the device, and who was woken up in the night by “suffocating and nauseating” fumes around 3:15am.
The device was, allegedly, “in switched off” mode, and was also unplugged, so it was not charging at the time. Devices that burst into flames are usually plugged in at the time, so this is rather interesting.
Mr. Himalian, a user who owns the phone, says that he immediately got some water, and poured it on the device. He believes that he managed to prevent the device from exploding by doing so, though that’s just his presumption, of course.
The OnePlus One is quite old at this point, as it was released in April 2014, but despite that, situations like this should not happen, obviously. This could be an isolated incident, presuming that the report is true. Whenever something like this happens, people start doubting build quality of a particular device, but it’s worth noting that accidents do happen, and considering that this is only the third report of such an incident occurring with a OnePlus device, it’s not time to raise any red flags, not yet.
The Galaxy Note 7 was a completely different story, 35 Galaxy Note 7 units exploded worldwide soon after the devices started shipping to consumers, and the company had to stop selling them altogether. This is, for the time being, just an isolated incident. Such accidents can happen to any phone, Apple’s iPhones had their fair share of incidents, as did many other phones from many other companies.
Mr. Himalian has requested Amazon (from where he purchased the device, presumably) and OnePlus to address the issue, and as already mentioned, OnePlus already issued a statement regarding this. The company will presumably inspect the device to see what happened, and if Mr. Himalian’s statement is true and accurate, we do hope that the company will do the right thing and compensate the user in some way.
The OnePlus One was not only the company’s first phone, but also its first flagship at the same time. That device managed to intrigue quite a few people when it was released back in 2014, as it offered solid design, great specs and it was extremely cheap compared to the competition. The company has come a long way since then, but it seems like quite a few people still use the very first OnePlus handset.
According to our thoughts, OnePlus One is an old phone, a very old phone and possibly there was some hardware malfunction for some reason. Though there should be no such case as the explosion of the phone even the phone is old, but that’s just a probability.
