Just In: Epic Games Announce that Sony has brought a minor stake in Epic Games of around $250 Million.
We all knew this was coming. The statements from Epic Boss Tim Sweeney being impressed by Sony and those appreciations for PS5. Also, Epic Games testing Unreal Engine 5 on PS5 First. In short, both companies have loved working with each other.
As described by Sony, the “close relationship between the two companies.” is now even more strengthen. The company aims to “broaden their collaboration” and increase its influence.
“Sony and Epic have both built businesses at the intersection of creativity and technology, and we share a vision of real-time 3D social experiences leading to a convergence of gaming, film, and music. Together we strive to build an even more open and accessible digital ecosystem for all consumers and content creators alike,” said Tim Sweeney, Founder, and CEO of Epic.
Sony’s CEO Yoshida also had to share a few words. According to Yoshida, Epic Games has done a fantastic job with game engine development (talking about Unreal Engine). Moreover, he also appreciated their Games like Fortnite. Yoshida claimed that together they can explore more opportunities and bring “value to customers and the industry at large, not only in games but also across the rapidly evolving digital entertainment landscape,”
Sony now getting access to Epic Games and Unreal Engine would be huge. We all know Unreal Engine 5 is the future, and Sony/PlayStation getting access to it would be very beneficial. PlayStation will get timely access, and they can further enhance their games for better optimization. Not only that, but Epic Games can provide their storefront as a huge opportunity for Sony to introduce their exclusives on PC. We’ll see about that!
