Different players from the Middle East wanted to pre-order The Last of Us Part 2. However, the game was not showing up. One of the users actually contacted PlayStation and asked why the game was not showing up on the Dubai store. The staff member of PlayStation replied “If any game did not exist in any Store region it means that the game is banned by the competent authorities of the country and we can not do anything regarding that”
Upon numerous confirmations and rumors, it is now sort of confirmed that the game is banned in the middle east. This is quite normal in the middle east, and a lot of games have been banned before. Most recently, Assasin’s Creed Odyssey and Origins had their mature content removed. After that, they were allowed to release the game. The policy most middle east governments follow do not allow mature content. Games with extreme ratings can go on and still comply with the following policy.
“extremely violent scenes such as torture, showing details of injuries, or scenes of using prohibited substances.””
The Last of Us Part 2 has LGBT content and a lot of mature scenes, hence it has been banned. Moreover, players have contacted Naughty Dog about the issue. They have not responded to this yet. A lot of players from different countries of the Middle East have confirmed this.
