Vivo had all the focus on the APEX concept phone, a flagship smartphone that will feature an all-screen design with no chin and no notch, it was being praised as the future of mobile computing. Vivo then released the NEX, which is a less-refined version of the APEX because it will take some time for the devices like the latter to be produced in larger numbers.
As expected from the Android flagship smartphones these days, the NEX features up to 8GB RAM. These days, manufacturers top their Android flagship smartphones with the best possible internal specifications the industry has to offer. There is more, rumor has it that the NEX could be overshadowed by a smartphone which will feature 10GB of RAM.
Some screenshots were taken from Weibo highlight that the next smartphone from Vivo is going to feature 10GB of RAM. It is not difficult to imagine that the future Android smartphones will be featuring more RAM than your average notebook computers. Reportedly, ASUS wanted to put 10GB RAM in their ROG Phone but they couldn’t do it because they ran out of space which limited the gaming smartphone to 8GB of RAM.
It is clearly highlighted in the screenshots that the smartphone will feature a Snapdragon 660, this is not the route that you should take if you want to release a high-end device. With the release of Snapdragon 710, the manufacturers will be able to provide the customers with flagship features at a low price.
At this point having a Snapdragon 660 with 10GB of RAM probably does not make sense. Even though Snapdragon 660 can hold its own against the other upper mid-range SoC lineup. With Samsung ramping production of LPDDR5 RAM, these chips could feature a lot of bandwidth while being smaller in size, which makes LPDDR5 a proper successor to the LPDDR4X memory chips that are found in many high-end smartphones these days.
